Proudly introducing...

Great news! Our little family will soon be extended with another baby. Everything is going fine and we are all looking forward to May 2011 when she will be born. The doctor is quite convinced it will be a girl, and our gut feeling tells us he is probably right.

We'll keep you posted and can hopefully publish some nice pictures. The scan at the beginning of our post is not so clear unfortunately.

The beer tasted like nectar

When cleaning I came accross a letter from a pen-pal. It was fun reading again what she thought and did in June 1999, more than 10 years ago.

I wonder if she will be able to figure out it was her who wrote it, so I'll publish part of her letter here (don't worry, I'm leaving out all the juicy bits).

"Last month I went to *** for my friend's wedding. That was a lot of fun. I hung out with my girlfriends and one day I made a trip to *** to see friends there. It's the only time I got drunk. I know I was drunk because I kept saying that the beer tasted like nectar. That's a sure sign of intoxication.

When flying back I changed planes from a big one to a 19-seat "puddle jumper". We flew into a big dark cloud and the plane rocked and bobbed. I thought for sure that we'd crash. Sometimes it's nice to be wrong."

Movement School in Grimbergen

Today I went for the first time with our daughter to the movement school in Grimbergen. Every Sunday children from the age of 1,5 years can participate in group sessions. With the aid of balloons, carpets, toys, rings, hoops and much much more they explore their psychomotricity.

My Godson Niels

On August 30th, 2010, my brother and my sister-in-law became the proud parents of Niels, a small but healthy bundle of joy. At only 1,630 kg and 43,5 cm, you can hardly call him a new Harlem Globetrotter. But my one and only godson is quickly gaining weight and will surely catch up with my brother in no time.

Best wishes to the lucky mother and father of Niels, and I hope I'll be an excellent Godfather to him. Godfather, imagine that :) I will make him an offer he can't refuse.

Grimbergen Funfair

Grimbergen Centre has two funfairs : one in May (when there is also the Sint-Servaas Procession) and one in September (which coincides with the Yearly Market when cattle is sold). This year the festivities have been spread over 4 days (as opposed to the normal 3 days). Activities include the traditional fun fair (bumper cars, speed rides, roller coasters, chip shops and much much more) but also animal exhibitions, sheep dog training, horse-riding, market stalls etc.

It was our daughter's first fun fair, and she enjoyed herself on the merry-go-round. It was also nice to bump into old friends, family and acquaintances.

A day out with Otto Dix, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Max Pechstein

On Saturday I will visit the famous Museum der Phantasie (aka. Buchheim-Museum), a museum in Bernried am Starnberger See. Named after Lothar-Günther Buchheim (writer of Das Boot), whose art collection it holds, it was opened to the public on 23 May 2001.

The building, designed by the architectural firm Behnisch, Behnisch & Partner, was completed in October 1999. It encompasses around 4,000 square meters and is designed to resemble a ship, with a jetty-like balcony extending out over the Starnberger See. In the surrounding park various sculptures are displayed.

The museum holds Buchheim's collection of expressionist art, with works by Erich Heckel, Emil Nolde, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Max Pechstein, and so forth. It also displays examples of folk art, African art, and Asian art which Buchheim collected during his travels. Paintings by Buchheim himself are also on display.
